A tribute to old Bombay in Birmingham
Dishoom Birmingham brings the much-loved restaurant’s tribute to old Bombay and its Irani cafés to the city centre, with the same distressed-café charm, vintage details and warm lighting. The atmosphere is lively yet intimate, from breakfast to late-night dinner.
What to order
The famous dishes are the Bacon Naan Roll (crispy bacon, chilli-tomato jam, cream cheese in soft naan) and the 24-hour House Black Daal. Try also Chicken Ruby, spicy lamb chops and lamb samosas, with House Chai to finish.
Who it’s for
Good for breakfast with friends, a relaxed dinner or a group meal to share — be prepared for queues at busy times.
Atmosphere
Though it sits in a gleaming new building on Chamberlain Square, Dishoom has aged the room on purpose — ceiling fans turn slowly, sepia photographs crowd the walls, and dark wood and marble are lit low and warm. The design nods to old Bombay’s Swadeshi market, drawing quiet parallels between that city and Birmingham.
The result is a room that hums from breakfast to late dinner, layered and lived-in, with an outdoor terrace for brighter days.

House Black Daal & Masala Paratha is just the base and what makes it worth coming back for. The black daal simmers for over a day, the texture creamy, tender. And the hot, flaky, buttery tandoor paratha flatbread is the…
The food was perfect. We loved every dish. The broccoli salad! The ruby chicken! The gunpowder potatoes! And the corn was incredible! For drinks we ordered two sharbats. Both were super tasty. For dessert – the chocolate…

We really enjoyed our visit to Dishoom. A captivating, loud and bustling atmosphere, and of course very busy. We had to wait a little, but we were well looked after, and we had the chance to have a drink. Our waiter was…
